Based on the need to enhance the participation of women in the Nation's economy, a Women's Cell was set up, in the Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Erstwhile Ministry of Labour & Employment, Directorate General of Employment and Training (DGE&T)), with assistance from Swedish International Development Authority/International Labour Organization. DGT (WOT) conducted an all India feasibility study for expansion and diversification of VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME for WOMEN.

As an outcome of this study, the Women's Vocational Training Programme was designed and Launched in the year 1977.

The programme aimed at providing wide range of equitable opportunities for skill training to women so as to bring them into the main stream of the nation's economic activities.


The Women's Cell at DGT, is entrusted with planning, designing, executing, pursuing long-term policies for vocational training of women in areas having high employment potential including self-employment potential; thereby increasing women's participation in economic and social development of the country.

Facilities:

Library
The institute has a well equipped and furnished library with a collection of reference books, other engineering books, magazines and periodicals which would help the students to inculcate an extensive reading habit.

Hostel
Separate hostel has been set up for trainees within the Campus. The hostel life aims to develop within the trainees the spirit of team work, leadership qualities and values of ethical behaviour and sensitivity to society.

Canteen

The Institute canteen is ideally located behind the Institute building. The modern kitchen uses latest technology and delivers the highest standard of hygiene. Trainees can visit the canteen during tea break and lunch break and after class hours in the evening.

Admission Process:

CTS: Admissions are made on the basis of merit. The advertisement for various courses is given in leading News papers during 1 st week of june. On receipt of Applications and after scrutinizing, merit list will be prepared and displayed during the last week of July every year. Minimum Qualification for admission to CTS courses is 10th pass. Minimum age is 15 years. There is no upper age limit.


CITS: Admission is made on the basis of AICET ( All India Common Entrance Test) which is conducted in the month of June / July every year. The sessions for CTS and CITS courses are from August to January and from February to July. Reservation of seats is as per Government of India norms.
